ABOUT US

Back to Pack Rescue Shelter (BPR) strives to prevent re-homing of dogs. To us, that means putting in the work that needs to be done to train dogs in obedience and exposing them to different situations. The methods that we use are fear free and we follow the guidelines of fear free pets (www.fearfreepets.com). BPR also house trains dogs before adoption and this includes potty and crate training. This requires a lot of work from our trainers, but it is worth all the time knowing that these dogs will stay with one family for their entire life.

The training of our Dogs is a 24 hour a day process for at least a month. Our dogs are placed with trainers who spend a 1-month training course with the dogs. They are house trained with the trainers and treated as part of their family. This period allows the dog to become comfortable in a home setting and become accustom to this environment.

BPR was started with a friendship between Andrew and Luna. Luna was a rescued dog from northern Manitoba who traveled with her companion Andrew. She accompanied him on his trips where he worked up north as a registered nurse. It was her Love that gave him the desire to rescue dogs from northern communities. He wanted to give people the same experience he had with his dog Luna and give the dogs a second chance at life. This Love from Luna gave Andrew even more passion and helped him to complete his Certification for Professional Dog Training (CPDT-KA). Also, BPR follows strict standards of training and Andrew is Fear Free Certified (ie. don’t use physical coercion and focus on behavioral modification through psychology).

BPR also believes in the importance of early education of puppies during their critical period of life. We also believe that early education and fear free training should be accessible for every dog owner and dog. We therefore provide free puppy training classes to the public.

Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” ~ Anatole France
